X-Posted from "Hausa language, literature and culture" <H-HAUSA@H-NET.MSU.EDU> From: "John Philips, Hirosaki University" <philips@MAIL.H-NET.MSU.EDU> ---------- Date: Mon, 24 Jul 2006 12:40:35 -0400 From: "Don Osborn" <firstname.lastname@example.org> Subject: Wikipedia in Hausa The subject of Wikipedia came up on another list, and in checking African language sections (Wikipedia is expressedly multilingual) I was surprised that the Hausa Wikipedia at http://ha.wikipedia.org/ is one of the least represented languages, even among African languages. A complete list is at http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/List_of_Wikipedias (NB- if you want to see a page *in* a language, as opposed to *about* it in English, you will need to click on the 2 or 3 letter code in the "Wiki" column). Having discussed ideas of using Wikipedia in African studies courses elsewhere (there was a long discussion on H-Africa a few months ago), I wonder about the possibility of doing something with the language-specific Wikipedia pages - such as those in Hausa - in advanced language courses.
