To: H-US1918-45@H-NET.MSU.EDU As the editor of the Encyclopedia of the Great Black Migration of the Twentieth Century (forthcoming from Greenwood Press), I seek qualified scholars to contribute to this collaborative, scholarly endeavor. The encyclopedia seeks to situate the movement of southern African Americans to the urban North and Far West over the course of the twentieth century in its broadest social, economic, cultural, and political context. Entries will provide students and researchers with information about the key people, places, organizations, and events that defined the era of the migration (1900-1970). The encyclopedia draws upon the expertise of leading scholars in history, economics, demography, sociology, anthropology, journalism, geography, literature, art history, and musicology to craft entries that incorporate the interpretations and insights of recent scholarship. About 75 of the 450 entries remain to be assigned, a list of which follows below. Entries vary in length from 500 to 2000 words and relate to a variety of topics. If you are interested in contributing, please contact Steven A. Reich <reichsa@jmu.edu> for full details of the project.
