FYI, this new site http://aflat.org/ may be of interest. It is a significant addition to the sources of information on language resources for Africa, especially in the area of language technology. As such, it complements some other resources such as: * PanAfrican Localisation wiki (focus on resources & info for localization of ICT in African languages) at http://www.panafril10n.org/wikidoc/pmwiki.php/PanAfrLoc/ * Web Resources for African Languages (online materials that deal with African languages and linguistics) at http://goto.glocalnet.net/maho/webresources/ Don Osborn -----Original Message----- From: Gilles-Maurice de Schryver [mailto:gillesmaurice.deschryver@UGent.be] Sent: Thursday, January 25, 2007 12:22 AM To: dzo@bisharat.net Subject: Invite to 'African Language Technology' (aflat.org) Dear friends and colleagues, ANNOUNCING A NEW PORTAL: African Language Technology (AfLaT) URL: http://aflat.org/ Interest in language technology research for African languages has seen a tremendous increase in recent years. This is marked by the growing availability of digital corpora, dictionaries and tools for many (formerly) resource-scarce African languages. The AfLaT website aims to catalogue these resources for the benefit of researchers interested in African language technology. AfLaT.org contains a steadily growing collection of bibliographic resources, web links and tools, provided by AfLaT members. We would like to invite you to join this community effort and share information, discuss research topics or just simply browse through the available content. Registration is free of charge. We hope to see you soon! Guy De Pauw, Belgium Gilles-Maurice de Schryver, Belgium & South Africa Peter Waiganjo Wagacha, Kenya
