I think the qeustion on the list was about available teaching materical. Alan Watson has a very useful book on comparative New World slave codes, Slave Law int the Americas, but it is not a compilation of the texts. Getting at the texts, in English, is difficult;so too is even finding the American codes; I have been collecting statutes for years, but have no hope of getting them all; most, however, are on a microfiiche collection I edited for University Publications fo America. State Slavery Statutes. The guide contains an introduction for a bibliography of American state slavery statutes and the 354 card microfiche collection of the slavery statutes of the southern states. Univ. Publications of America, 1989. However, while very very useful, I regret to say it is not 100% complete (is anything) and in any event, has nothing from the colonies or the North. And it is only for the US. I hope someone will take up the challaenge and provide us with slave codes from the rest of N. and South America -- Paul Finkelman Chapman Distinguished Professor of Law University of Tulsa College of Law 3120 East 4th Place Tulsa, OK 74104-3189 918-631-3706 (office) 918-631-2194 (fax) paul-finkelman@utulsa.edu
