Dear all, Yahoo! Messages is closing on 31 March 2013. This online discussion forum has the potential to be an unparalleled resource for all historians, including historians of science, medicine, and technology (there are undoubtably reams of professional and amateur discussion on computing, medicine, vaccinations, etc. - see http://messages.yahoo.com/ for an overview of the current categories on this discussion forum). There is a team of people trying to preserve this digital archive right now, but Yahoo! is not co-operating and is limiting what each individual web connection can do. If you care about digital preservation, you can help this team by letting them run a Virtual Machine on your computer and lend them some of your bandwidth. In order to do this, go to http://tracker.archiveteam.org/yahoo-messages/#show-all, click 'on Run your own ArchiveTeam Warrior.' The ArchiveTeam Warrior is a virtual archiving appliance that you can run to help with the ArchiveTeam archiving efforts. It will download sites and upload them to our archive — and it’s really easy to do. Since the software is a virtual machine, there is no risk to your computer - it will only use your bandwidth and some of your disk space. It might take a bit of your time, but you'll be making a real service to digital preservation. This archive contains a MASSIVE amount of non-commercial content by tons of people, some fifteen years worth, so future historians will undoubtably thank you if you can help out.
