Dear Colleagues, In answer to the inquiry about the website of the State Archival Service of Russia (Rosarkhiv), the official Rosarkhiv website is still in preparation. When completed soon (I have not heard the final decision re the URL), it will REPLACE the Russian-language version of our ArcheoBiblioBase website now located at the OpenWeb server at the Historical Library in Moscow. PLEASE correct the FYI for the SHERA-list--apparently from a notice posted on the Slavic librarians list. Apparently, the Rosarkhiv message either got jumbled in transmission or simply gave the wrong address. I am sending my Rosarkhiv colleagues a copy of this message so they can correct it. I would appreciate if you would repeat this for the Slavic librarians, where the error may have also occurred. According to our earlier announcement: ArcheoBiblioBase Online: The Russian version is available on the OpenWeb server in Moscow, at the State Public Historical Library (GPIB)-http://www.openweb.ru/koi8/rusarch -OR -openweb.ru/windows/rusarch. I just tried and got through DIRECTLY to the ABB page (withOUT) going through the OpenWeb home page at the address: http://www.openweb.ru/rusarch Apparently you don't now need to include the "koi8" or "window" in the address, although you can use either Cyrillic font. BUT you must add "ru" to the address you were citing and there is NO tilde!! You can also reach the Russian version through a hot link via the English version at the ABB website maintained by the International Institute of Social History in Amsterdam (IISH) (http:/www.iisg.nl/~abb). The English version was last updated at the end of August, but I left further updated data from Moscow in Amsterdam two weeks ago, and so the data there will soon be further updated. Already the English version has more archives and much more complete data than the current Russian version, which has not been revised since it was launched in April 1997. As soon as the new updated Russian official Rosarkhiv version is ready, there will be notices to that effect at the present addresses in both English and Russian. If there are further questions, feel free to contact us--either at the Amsterdam or Moscow addresses. Sincerely, Patricia K.
