Second World War Seminar Programme University of Oxford 25 April - 19 June 1999. Dear Sir/Madam, I would like to notify you of a seminar on the Second World War that is due to take place in Oxford next year, which I believe will be of interest to the members of your list. As 1999 is the 60th anniversary of the outbreak of the Second World War and because we feel that there is an absence of seminars and conferences specifically devoted to this period, particularly outside of the USA, we plan to hold a series of up to 8 seminars during Trinity term 1998. Specific days and times have yet to be finalised, but they would be held between Sunday, 25 April and Saturday, 19 June. We do not have a primary theme or focus and are open to suggestions for titles of papers, but we are keen to invite scholars who can contribute new or innovative perspectives. Primarily we feel that this would attract established scholars but recent graduates should not feel precluded from submitting suggestions. We would like to present a diverse range of papers that will provoke interest and debate from scholars of various backgrounds. Our aim is not to present a 'war and society' seminar but to ask contributors to write on particular issues, incidents or turning points which would allow all types of scholars to participate, and then to concentrate on military and/or political matters where there has been a renewal of interest. We welcome expressions from anyone who may be interested in presenting a paper, who should contact: Paul Collier Wadham College Oxford OX1 3PN Tel: (01865) 277994 Fax: (01865) 277937 email: paul.collier@wadham.oxford.ac.uk ************************************************* *************************************************
