Listserv commands have a way of getting lost over time, so we try to post them once a month. Please save this message for future reference. Phil Landon Moderator, H-PCAACA **************************************************************************** LISTSERV COMMANDS: MAKING H-PCAACA WORK FOR YOU H-PCAACA is an electronic mail list managed with Listserv, a popular e-mail list program. Using a few simple commands, you can make Listserv provide your H-PCAACA messages in a variety of forms, suspend delivery of messages if you'll be away from your e-mail account for a while, resume delivery when you're back, or terminate your subscription. Here's how: ** SUBSCRIPTIONS ** To subscribe, send an e-mail message to LISTSERV@h-net.msu.edu according to the following model: SUBSCRIBE H-PCAACA firstname lastname, institution Example: SUBSCRIBE H-PCAACA James F. Cooper, Mohican Univ. You will receive a Survey asking for name, address, and other information. When this form has been returned, the editors will add you to the list. ** POSTING MESSAGES TO THE LIST ** To post a message to H-PCAACA, simply send it to H-PCAACA@h-net.msu.edu. It will be read by an editor and passed on. If you wonder what happened to a message you posted, write to an editor and ask! ** REPLYING TO MESSAGES ** When you REPLY to message from the list, your reply will be sent back to the list and will be treated as a new posting. If you do not change the SUBJECT line, you will help others who want to follow particular debates or "threads" within the overall list traffic. A WARNING--please remember that REPLY replies to the whole list and not to particular individuals on it. Only messages of general interest should be posted to the list. ** MANAGING YOUR H-PCAACA MAIL ** The following commands (sent as messages) to LISTSERV@h-net.msu.edu, will permit you to make all the most typical adjustments to manage your e-mail from H-PCAACA. If you prefer to receive one daily message containing all entries on H-PCAACA instead of separate individual messages, you can do so by sending to the listserv: SET H-PCAACA DIGEST This can be very useful if you wish to reduce the number of new messages in your mailbox. To return to individual messages, send the following message to the listserv: SET H-PCAACA NODIGEST If you are to be away from your computer for a lengthy period of time, and you want to stop messages from arriving in your e-mail in-box, you can put a "hold" on H-PCAACA e-mail by sending: SET H-PCAACA NOMAIL When you return, you can resume your subscription by sending the following message to the listserv: SET H-PCAACA MAIL To unsubscribe, send the following message to LISTSERV@h-net.msu.edu: UNSUB H-PCAACA These simple commands can help you get the most from your subscription to H-PCAACA. We're glad to have you with us in the H-PCAACA discussion community. Please send us your queries and comments concerning popular culture and feel free to tell us what you think of the list.
