Regarding Professor Bjork's rumination that he does not like to watch pro sports on TV because it reminds him of how much money the performers make, I am moved to inquire whether he watches network news, whose purveyors (of the latest on the OJ saga) are in the same income ballpark as Kirby Puckett, et al, or, for that matter, movies, whose stars earn, in many cases, much more than $5 mil/year. On OJ himself, I (as a sport historian) really can't think of anything very interesting or insightful to say about him or his current troubles from a sport standpoint. Twelve years or so past his playing career, he's just another celebrity having trouble handling life, like so many other celebrities. Others on this net have spoken more eloquently than I can about the definition and nature of American heroes and what it is that's so compelling about this case. NFL training camps open later this month.... John Findling Indiana U. Southeast New Albany, IN jfindlin@iusmail.ius.indiana.edu
