---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Registrar Assistant for Collection Inventory Guggenheim Museum DURATION: Term of contract is through the end of 2006 with possibility of being extended. RESPONSIBILITIES: The Registrar Assistant will be part of a team conducting an interesting and important project - a comprehensive inventory of the museum's collections. Working under the direction of the Registrar Department, the Registrar Assistant's primary responsibility is the reconciliation of data for each object in TMS. He/she will also edit and affect the loading of new digital images into the database, file worksheets into object files, and assist the collection registrar in any other data entry projects that may occur as the inventory advances. The Registrar Assistant will work closely with the Associate Registrar for Collection Management, Inventory Registrar, and TMS Specialist to ensure consistency and accuracy of data. This position may involve working on site with the inventory team and participation in regular meetings of the team and permanent staff. This project provides an excellent opportunity to hone art object research, collection management and TMS skills. We seek an individual who is interested in a career in registrar, curatorial, collection management, or database administration. Duties may include: scanning images; editing digital image files; alpha and numeric sorting and filing of documents; data entry from project worksheets; and object and collections management research. QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor's degree plus previous registrar, collection management, or other relevant experience preferred. Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills are required. Ability to work both independently and as part of a team. Ability to use considerable logic. Understanding of art object cataloguing methods, with some knowledge of museum registration methods a plus. Attention to detail and willingness to ask questions imperative. Computer proficiency including experience with The Museum System (TMS) or other museum database systems and Photoshop desired.
