Of possible interest to some on the list...resent by SH ---------- Forwarded message ---------- Date: Tue, 18 Nov 1997 01:29:09 -0800 From: Nancy Marie Robertson <nmrobertson@erols.com> Reply-To: H-NET List for Women's History <H-WOMEN@H-NET.MSU.EDU> To: Multiple recipients of list H-WOMEN <H-WOMEN@H-NET.MSU.EDU> Subject: CFP: Berks Panel on Gender and the Cold War From: Veronica Wilson <vwilson@rci.rutgers.edu> Hello, everyone: I hope to put together a panel for the 1998 Berkshire Conference on Gender and the Cold War, and am especially looking for individuals whose work focuses on issues such as the relationships between gender and patriotism, subversion, "Americanism", espionage, or Communism. My own work deals with former Communist spies and how their careers were represented in the press, in fiction, and so forth, between the years 1945 and 1963. I compare and contrast images of male and female spies, and also the gendered prescriptive behaviors expected of the ex-Communist just prior to and during the McCarthy era. If your work examines aspects of how gender and political ideology intertwine during this time period, please contact me directly at the e-mail address below. Thanks.
