Dear netero(a)s The JILAS~Journal of Iberian and Latin American Studies (edited at La Trobe University) plans to include a 'Forum' dealing with the origins, process and consequences of the recent developments in Venezuela. The idea is to include this Forum in the next issue of our journal - scheduled to appear in the middle of July. Our intention is to solicit a series of short (maximum 2,000-2,500 words) articles dealing with particular dimensions of the golpe - pre and post Apri 13. Although our preference is for contributions that focus on the recent events themselves - discussions of the longer-term processes involved, say from the Dec 10, 2001 Civic Strike would be appropriate too. Ideally we are looking for contributions that can target particular dimensions of the events of the last week. We would be particularly interested in receiving offers of eye-witness accounts, as well as contributions which deal with such actors or processes as; the role of the Venezuelan media (print and electronic), the position of the CTV union federation - and of the Venezuelan labor movement in general; the behaviour and pronouncements of FEDECAMARAS; the content of the short Carmona 'administration; the role of the armed force and the role of the United States (overt and covert). Suggestions regarding other dimensions of the golpe would be welcome as would suggestions concerning interesting documents that warrant reproduction. I should note that JILAS is a fully bilingual (actually trilingual) journal so contributions may be in either Spanish or English. Clearly, given our publishing and editing schedule - time is of the essence. Potential contributors will obviously need some time to reflect and new developments, data etc may emerge which deserve to be incorporated in the short articles. Our working assumption at the moment is that we would like contributions to reach us by the middle of May (!!) at the latest. Offers of contributions and suggestions about possible contributors (who may include both academic analysts as well as protagonists in the events) will be gratefully received by the JILAS editorial board. Please email me directly (b.carr@latrobe.edu.au). Although the nature of the Forum we are putting together probably does not warrant the normal refereeing protocols that we insist on for research articles, avances de investigacion and so on - we will do our best to have the contributions read by an external specialist. The events of April 9-16 constitute one of the most important conjunctures in the history not only of Venezuela but of the Americas as a whole and it would be good to have some historians or history-inflected contributions as part of the Forum.
