Enviado el: viernes, 29 de marzo de 2002 02:59 I have read with interest most of the posts sparked by Tom Holloway's musings on an alternative designation for nationals of the United States of America. Around the world, most people are familiar with USA as an abbreviation for the United States. I would suggest that this acronym has the advantage of being brief as well as recognizable. It could easily stand as the foundation of a designation which would be easy on the tongue. We should call ourselves "USAns" as in "I am an Usan." This term has other advantages. For self-reference, we could pronounce it as in "us'ns," while English speakers from elsewhere might refer to us as "you'sns." In Portuguese and Spanish, it readily becomes "usanos" or "usanas," as gender should dictate. Offered for the good of the cause, and with tongue ligthly in cheek.. George P.
