There exists a significant literature regarding the word. In fact "gringo" means different things in different countries. In Peru anyone who is fair of skin and hair is likely to earn the nickname "gringo." In some countries it is limited to folks from the US, in others any foreigner. The argument for green uniforms and Protestant camp songs just does not hold water. The term has been in use for far too long. John F.
