Enviado el: miercoles, 27 de marzo de 2002 05:21 As for an alternative to Euro-centric names for the Americas, some Indigenous rights activists have advocated using the term "Abya Yala" which means "Continent of Life" in the language of the Kuna peoples of Panama and Colombia. Indigenous identities are overwhelmingly local, and this is the only term I have ever come across that encompasses a broad geographic area. I suspect the need to name such areas in and of itself is a Euro-centric activity. _________________________________ Marc Becker Assistant Professor of History Truman State University firstname.lastname@example.org http://www.yachana.org
