In his post of Fri, 22 Jun 2001 on the meaning of the word "terrone," John
Dillon refers in passing to the varying reliability of Italian dictionaries
for historical use and later makes the interesting observation in his
response to Alessandra Guigoni's comments:

I was wondering if John, Alessandra, and other members of the list might
offer some advice on Italian dictionaries and their usage for historians.
