Dear Colleagues, I have received another response from the Prince Klaus Fund ( Amsterdam ) informing us that is desirable to share the information about the CER (Cultural Emergency Response) of the Foundation. They helped in the Iraqi case and will help in the Egyptian as well. As you certainly saw yesterday, now, the Egyptian authorities are starting to confirm that many problems have happened in Egypt. In spite of the first tranquilizing reports denying the facts, with time, we will have confirmation of the full extent of looting of the sites. Let’s hope that the things are ok soon. Thanks in advance All the best, Claudio Dear Claudio, Thank you for your reaction. In the interest of the damaged Egyptian Antiquities, please feel free to share the information on our Cultural Emergeny Response programme with your network. Now that stability looks like it is returning to the country, there are prospects for providing assistance where it is most needed. We look forward to receiving your update on the latest situation. As you may be aware, the Prince Claus Fund runs a Cultural Emergency Response (CER) programme that was set up in 2003 in reaction to the looting of the National Museum in Baghdad. CER aims to provide rapid and effective financial support to cultural heritage that has been damaged or destroyed by natural or man-made disasters. CER believes that the rescuing of cultural heritage can provide hope and consolation to disaster-struck communities. By providing support within 6 months of a disaster, CER aims to stabilize the situation, prevent further damage and implement basic repairs. For the identification of cultural emergencies, CER relies on an international and local network. We are currently establishing contact with various organisations to identify the damages and to offer the potential assistance of the Prince Claus Fund for rescuing heritage. I would therefore be grateful if you could continue informing us on any damages identified, and perhaps also advise on the cultural needs, solutions and priorities.
