Thanks for your suggestion, Steve.  I had thought of replying to the messages
but have held back from that, in part because it strikes me as descending to
the
level of the antagonists . . . or approximating that.

A question that needs to be answered was posed by our colleague from Pitt.: are
many listmembers receiving this posting or only a few of us?
