Interesting... So Hoess, Speer, Stangl were functionalists and Heydrich and Himmler were intentionalists? This is a valuable distinction. Is this conclusion too pat on my part? I would extend it to Himmler and Heydrich as Master types and the others as Followers. This also means that the supreme Master gathers others of a similar tendency in a hierarchical structure, what Canetti called the _crowd crystal_. Outside of it are the Followers. This may mean that in some sense the master _represents_ the collective thinking and feeling of the Crystal, or at least parts of it and is not the only instigator of major ideas and actions. -- Alan Jacobs http://www.bravenewweb.com/idea
