Sent: Thursday, 8 August 2013 2:11 p.m. I googled ""Salvage Men"" and 1936 and came up with an English reference from May 29, 1936 that refers to the "Salvage Corps Fleet," a London group of what we call "firemen." Maybe popular literature of the 1930s presented them as sexy heroes.
