X-post: H-NET List for African History and Culture <H-AFRICA@H-NET.MSU.EDU> As one small part of a larger research effort on localization in African languages I'm mentioning early efforts at software that was either localized (commands translated) in one or another African language for production in that (or possibly other) language(s), or was not fully localized but designed with production in one or more African language in mind. This particular question focuses on older software, probably obsolete and out of use by now. (Current projects and localized software are of definite interest, but not the focus of this question.) The list I have is rather short, but I wanted to ask if anyone has information on any software that is not mentioned: DOS-based: * Koma Kuda - word processor for Manding in the N'Ko script, a right to left writing system * Afri-Alpha - software for production in diverse languages of Benin and West Africa (the interface was apparently in French and not translated into any African language) Windows: * Somitek Hikaadiye - Somali language wordprocessor and spellchecker (Windows 3.1) * Oromosoft - Oromo language in the Latin-based Qubee orthography * Amharic WordPerfect - version developed locally but not for production Thanks in advance for any comments or information.
