There has been some discussion about similar "closure" proposals for African language editions of Wikipedia at http://tech.groups.yahoo.com/group/afrophonewikis/ (note for instance, the thread about Xhosa) I should clarify that closing the Hausa Wikipedia would not remove it but rather put it in a temporary restricted mode. Problem is that closure is usually for a year before it will be deleted/removed. Personally I think that if there is inactivity on a Wikipedia for a language like Hausa (large number of speakers, vigorous use, and a fair amount of print and media action), that represents a failure of outreach, not a lack of interest. IOW, among the people in a position to access a computer and contribute to ha.wikipedia.org, there is lack of awareness of Wikipedia, and how to contribute. It only takes a few people to really animate a Wikipedia edition. -- Wannan wasik'ar i-mel ce daga H-Hausa, inda za'a cigaba da hira game da harshe da al'adu da tarihi da sauran lamura na Hausawa da mak'wabtansu.
