Date: Thu, 9 Dec 2004 13:24:23 -0500 X-Posted from H-NET List for African History and Culture <H-AFRICA@H-NET.MSU.EDU> From: Peter Limb <plimb@MAIL.H-NET.MSU.EDU> ---------------------- Call for Authors: The Encyclopedia of Western Colonialism Since 1450 The Gale Group/Macmillan Reference USA Thomas Benjamin < email@example.com>, Editor-in-Chief, wishes to invite scholars to contribute to a valuable encyclopedic project on Western colonialism. The name of the project is _The Encyclopedia of Western Colonialism Since 1450_ by The Gale Group/Macmillan Reference USA. This encyclopedia is organized in the following five regional divisions: The Americas, Africa, the Middle East, and East Asia and the Pacific. The articles of each regional division are supervised by an Associate Editor. _The Encyclopedia of Western Colonialism Since 1450_ is a project of three volumes that will contain approximately 500 articles. These articles range in length from 500 to 5,000 words. Authors of these articles will be recognized by name. Authors are paid $ .11 US per word and receive a contract from the Gale Group that specifies the title of the article, a description of the topic, the word-count of the article, the date of delivery of the article to the publisher, and payment. At this moment we have a few articles left to be assigned. Persons interested in writing one or more articles need to send their CV and contact Dennis R. Hidalgo firstname.lastname@example.org or the appropriate Associate Editor. The Editors will provide scope descriptions for each article, a date for delivery, and answer questions relevant to the articles and the larger project. If a potential contributor is interested, for example, in writing an article about Francisco Pizarro, an article in the regional division of THE AMERICAS, that person should contact Professor Anthony McFarlane. Some editors, however, are responsible for certain trans-regional articles. Articles about the colonial legal system of each empire are assigned by Professor Eileen Scully. The project has attracted an impressive international group of scholars and we are very excited to see the quality and scope of the responses. We would very much appreciate your participation too. Your contribution will add significant value to the quality and diversity of this encyclopedia. This is the contact information for the area editors.
