I just got a 419 message that was so funny I had to share it with the list. Although the sender claimed to be in Zambia and "forbidden by law to operate an account outside the shores of Zambia" (Zambia has shores?!?!?) he signed the letter "Mr.Fred Lugard" and used an e-mail address <fdlugard@[wellknownISP].com>. It's been obvious for many years that no one with the slightest knowledge of Africa could fall for these letters, but why do those tempted to fall for these scams not try to do some simple, basic research before sending thousands of dollars down a rabbit hole? Just a phone call to a specialist in African affairs could save them a bundle.
