Re some extended Arabic characters not being in the Arial Unicode MS font, Peter Constable of SIL reminds us (on the a12n-collaboration group, to which I forwarded Nikolai's letter) that > Arial Unicode MS was designed to support the Unicode 2.1 character inventory. Note that it doesn't include any glyphs for Ethiopic, Khmer, Burmese, Canadian syllabics, or the numerous other additions in Unicode 3.0 and later.
