As a (most) reluctant warrior in the Kosovo crisis, I am seeking examples of similar unilateral interventions by states to prevent human rights abuses. The argument has been made that NATO's intervention is in contravention of international law for failing to seek and obtain the United Nations imprimatur. The clearest analogy for me (since I lived through it) was Tanzania's unilateral attack on Idi Amin's Uganda in 1979. It did so, if memory serves me correctly, to world applause. Can anyone supply me with similar instances since 1945? By instances, I refer to those cases which were accepted, if not applauded, by world opinion.
