ANNOUNCING H-EDUCATION H-NET LIST ON THE HISTORY OF EDUCATION Sponsored by H-Net, Humanities & Social Sciences On-line, Michigan State University H-Education is a moderated internet discussion forum in the history of education, broadly defined as a recognized field covering both formal and informal institutions and processes regarding teaching and learning. We hope that H-Education will become an effective way to bring these otherwise diffuse discussions together for a broad audience of university professors, independent scholars, educators, and graduate students, from departments such as History, American Studies, Sociology, Anthropology, Urban Studies, and Women's Studies, as well as Schools of Education. H-Education is FREE and open to everyone with a mature and abiding interest in. It is edited by Allison Halpern, Dept of Educational Policy Studies, University of Wisconsin-Madison, ahalpern@students.wisc.edu; Penny L. Richards, PhD Research Scholar, UCLA Center for the Study of Women, turley2@earthlink.net; Sarah Barnes, Ph.D., svbarnes@mindspring.com; Scott Walter, University of Missouri-Kansas City, waltersc@umkc.edu; and Thomas J. Mertz, Department of History, UW-Madison tjmertz@students.wisc.edu. The editors serve two-year renewable terms, with the approval of the H-Net Executive Committee and rotate their duties. The current editor will be identified in all messages coming from the list. The editors will solicit postings (by email, phone and even by regular mail), will assist people in managing subscriptions and setting up options, will handle routine inquiries, and will consolidate some postings. Anyone with suggestions about what H-EDUCATION can and might do is invited to send in ideas. The editors will solicit and post newsletter-type information (calls for conferences, for example, or listings of sessions at conventions.) They will also commission book and article reviews, and post book announcements from publishers. H-EDUCATION will be moderated to filter out extraneous messages (like requests for subscription) and items that do not belong on H-EDUCATION. They may belong somewhere else, or in the judgment of the editors they do not aid the scholarly dialogue. The editors will not alter the meaning of messages without the author's permission. The list is advised by a board of field experts. Logs and more information can also be found at the H-Net Web Site, located at http://www.h-net.msu.edu/.
