Below is a job posting for a position in Francophone education. Although knowledge of the Ontario school system is preferred, scholars working on Francophone Africa and the Caribbean are welcome to apply, as well as those working with Francophone African and Caribbean communities in Canada. Sociology of Francophone Education The Department of Sociology and Equity Studies in Education, Ontario Institute for Studies in Education of the University of Toronto, invites applications for a tenure-stream position in the sociology of Francophone education. The appointment will be at the rank of Assistant Professor and will begin July 1, 2007. We seek candidates with expertise in sociology of education with a focus on Francophone minority language education to complement the department’s strength in critical sociological scholarship in equity studies. The preferred candidate will have a strong record of research and publications in the area of schooling and Francophone minority studies, with clear articulation of critical perspectives on equity and diversity issues. Candidates with knowledge of French language communities and school boards in Ontario will be preferred. The person hired will be expected to supervise graduate students, teach and develop courses in French and English in the area of sociology of education and Francophone studies. Preference will be given to candidates able to teach general courses in sociology of education and sociological theory. The position also includes the teaching of ‘school and society’ courses in the initial teacher education program. The successful candidate will assume leadership of an interdisciplinary research centre dedicated to the study of the social and linguistic practices of Francophones in a minority setting and will be invited to take a central role in coordinating OISE/UT’s French language research and graduate courses. The successful applicant will have a doctorate in Sociology or closely related discipline, an established record of research and publications, and a record of teaching courses at the university level. Candidates with strong administrative experience will be preferred.
