H-ASIA Sept 16 2012 Chinese copyright ******************************* From: Gregor Benton <Benton@cardiff.ac.uk<mailto:Benton@cardiff.ac.uk>> Can anyone tell me whether copyright applies to books published in China before 1991, when China's new copyright law came into force? Are pre-1991 books "in the public domain", or would a non-Chinese publisher still need the permission of the original Chinese publisher before bringing out a translation? The book I have in mind came out in 1989.
