The position offers a full-time, 12-month, non-tenure track appointment as an academic professional in the Center for East Asian and Pacific Studies, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. The initial appointment is for one year with continuation dependent upon funding renewal. The position will be available as soon as possible after the closing date. An outreach program, AEMS provides an online database plus a reference service for educators looking for audiovisual materials useful when teaching and learning about Asian societies and cultures. Duties include supervising work on the AEMS Internet site, database, and resource library; evaluating new media materials; editing the AEMS newsletter News and Reviews as well as the media section of the journal Education About Asia; answering reference questions; promoting the program and its services; and offering training sessions on the uses of educational media. The candidate should have a strong background in Asian studies, Bachelors degree required, Master's degree preferred, plus the enthusiasm and people skills needed to work with educators at all levels. Basic computer and Internet competence is desirable; excellent written English and editing skills are essential. The Coordinator must be able to work within a large university setting while cultivating a nationwide network of experts on Asia who voluntarily review and evaluate media materials. The candidate must have at least two years of related work experience. Salary will be commensurate with experience and qualifications. Generous vacation/sick leave/paid holidays.
