Forwarded From: Brian Henry <b.henry@3web.net> Here’s an example of the new antisemitism – a university of Ottawa economics professor who runs a website dedicated to the notion that the United States is conspiring with Britain and Israel to conquer the world. The site exhibits what I think is a distinctive component of the new antisemitism - an irrational loathing for both Israel and the United States. The site's editor, Michel Chossudovsky, claims articles he writes or collects and posts are anti-Zionist, not antisemitic. However, his anti-Zionism has an obvious affinity to the old antisemitic myth of Jews plotting to conquer the world. Also, while Chossudovsky is careful always to indict Israel and never explicitly "the Jews," articles that he posts on his site aren't always so particular. And the reader forums contain Holocaust denial material and other very crude Jew-hatred. Below, I've added the introductory paragraphs of a story about Chossudovsky's website, published August 20 in the Ottawa Citizen, with the url for the full story, and below that, the original public complaint sent to B'nai Brith Canada and then to the Citizen... U of O professor accused of hosting anti-Semitic website Group files complaint over 'wild theories' that blame Jews for 9/11 Pauline Tam Ottawa Citizen Saturday, August 10, 2005 A Jewish group has filed a complaint to the University of Ottawa against one of its professors after the discovery of content on his website that blames Jews for the terrorist attacks on the United States, and claims the numbers who died at Auschwitz are exaggerated. The website, www.globalresearch.ca, also reprints articles from other writers that accuse Jews of controlling the U.S. media and masterminding the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001. Other postings suggest Israel, the U.S. and Britain are the real perpetrators of the recent attacks on London. The site, which is not hosted by the university, is run by Michel Chossudovsky, a controversial left-leaning economist, and came to the attention of B'nai Brith Canada after public complaints to the advocacy group and the Citizen…. http://www.canada.com/ottawa/ottawacitizen/news/story.html?idïad3a9e-c2a0-48ea-9680-713f341e0d7a And here is the public complaint: It shouldn’t surprise anyone that conspiracy theorists are busily accusing Israel, America and Britain of the recent terrorist bombings in London. But people may be surprised to learn that, in Canada, conspiracy central is a Montreal-based website run by Michel Chossudovsky, a professor of economics at Ottawa University. On GlobalResearch.ca (http://www.globalresearch.ca/), Chossudovsky publishes his own fantasies. He posts articles from across the web that attack America and Israel and that promote antisemitism. And he provides a forum for members to share their hatreds and to post anti-American pornography and Holocaust denial material. Chossudovsky’s website features many articles suggesting Israel, America or Britain were the real perpetrators of the London bombings. One article fingers “right wing Britons,” another suggests the IRA. Apparently, only Islamist terrorists are above suspicion.[1] Instead, British Prime Minister Tony Blair is accused of encouraging anti-Muslim prejudice. For example, in the “London 7/7 Attack,” Ghali Hassan states that Blair and the western media “blindly accuse Muslims and Islam of violence [while ignoring] the real purveyors of today’s violence and terrorism in the world.” The real terrorists, according to Hassan, are the British themselves. He writes: “The 7/7 London bombing was next to impossible to conduct in the middle of high security without the intelligence and coordination of important people in Britain.” Articles posted on Chossudovsky’s site often take the early (and apparently incorrect) reports that British authorities uncovered warnings of an imminent attack as proof that Britain authorized the attacks. For example, in “The London Explosions, the Rogue Network, Bush and Iran” Webster Tarpley writes: “That the British Government knew in advance that blasts would occur is not open to rational doubt.” And he says, “With the London attacks, the Anglo-American invisible government adds another horrendous crime to its own dossier.” Chossudovsky also expresses conspiratorial views himself. He finds the reported early warnings of the attacks suspicious and repeats the myth that Netanyahu, who was in London at the time, was tipped off about the attacks. He writes: “Israeli Finance Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was warned by his embassy not to attend an economic conference organized by the Tel Aviv Stock Exchange (TASE) in collaboration with the Israeli embassy and Deutsche Bank.” Chossudovsky also finds it suspicious that Rudolph Giuliani was visiting London and that a security firm was enacting an anti-terrorism drill that envisaged an attack on the London subway on the same day as the actual attacks. All this, he says, needs a formal investigation. Chossudovsky has held conspiratorial views for a while. In “Political Deception: The Missing Link Behind 9/11,” Chossudovsky describes al Qaeda as a CIA asset.[2] In “America’s War for Global Domination,” he writes: “The investigations and research conducted in the last two years … indicate that September 11 was a carefully planned intelligence operation, rather than a act conducted by a terrorist organization.”[3] In his article “Who was behind the Attack on the Red Cross in Baghdad?” Chossudovsky suggests that America was responsible for bombing the IRC headquarters in Baghdad in 2003. And “if indeed a terrorist cell linked to Al Qaeda were responsible for this attack, we would expect the US intelligence apparatus and/or its Pakistani proxy to at least be informed. Amply documented Al Qaeda is ‘an intelligence asset’ of the CIA.” Chossudovsky accuses America of plotting to conquer the world in league with Britain and Israel. Syria will be invaded next Chossudovsky writes in “America's War for Global Domination.” He claims that: “Israel seeks to extend its territorial domain towards the Euphrates River, with designated areas of Jewish settlement in the Syrian heartland.”[4] Israel’s supposed desire to colonize the entire Middle East is a staple of Arab propaganda. But Chossudovsky may have a more particular source. On his website, he republishes an old antisemitic attack, “Israel’s Grand Design,” by John Mitchell Henshaw.[5] This article was originally published in 1968 in The American Mercury, which at the time was antisemitic magazine owned by Willis A. Carto, whom the Anti-Defamation League describes as “perhaps the most influential professional anti-Semite in the United States.”[6] Henshaw wrote: “The grand design of Judaic-Zionist expansionist doctrine is to seize all the oil-rich lands from the shores of the Euphrates to the banks of the Nile… By guile, treachery and bloodletting, the Zionists plot to annex all of Jordan, virtually all of Syria, half of Iraq and a large part of Saudi Arabia and all of the rich cotton lands of the Nile Valley.” Henshaw’s reference to Egyptian “cotton lands” strikes an archaic note, as does his accusation later in the article that “the Zionists” (by which he simply means “the Jews”) are in league with the communists, while the Arabs and America are their hapless victims.[7] Today’s Leftist antisemites seldom accuse Jews of conspiring with evil communists; they accuse us of conspiring with evil Americans. However, antisemites still picture Americans as victims of Jewish machinations. For example, on his website, Chossudovsky posts articles such as “Treason in High Places” by James Petras.[8] Petras identifies anyone in the Bush administration with a Jewish name as being an Israeli agent. According to Petras, “Pentagon Zionists” direct American policy in Israel’s interests and “at the expense of US soldiers.” Similarly, in “Solving the Enigma of Media Manipulation,”[9] John Kaminsky writes: “It is my sincere belief that Jewish influence on American media is the single greatest obstacle to finding the truth about recent political events.” He claims: “The New York Times, Boston Globe and Los Angeles Times are all Zionist operations.” According to Kaminsky, you can’t even trust Leftist websites, because they don’t “acknowledge the colossal impact Jews (most of whom support Israel's criminal behaviour) have on the American systems of media and education, and on America as a whole…. And in case you haven't noticed these past few years, America's objectives in the world are Israel's.” Even cruder Jew-hatred appears in the reader forums, which are moderated by Chossudovsky and his collaborators. Website members post Holocaust denial material, with topic names such as “The Hilarious Auschwitz Story.”[10] Here is a sample from a posting by “Holy Knight"[11]: “Jews suffered more at the hands of other Jews during the Nazi-Holocaust than at the hands of all other ethnic groups combined. The figure of 6 million Jewish casualties is regarded as an extreme exaggeration by all serious Holocaust scholars (even Jewish ones). “The demonization of Poles and Poland by the Jewish establishment is nothing but a smoke screen to cover up the bestial and atrocious behavior of Jews who used Communism as a pretext to enslave all of Central and Eastern Europe. “After WWII in Poland, Jews hunted down and killed 300,000 ethnic Poles, particularly those with higher education. Jews as the primary agents of Communist Terror deported almost 2 million Poles to Siberia and unknown fates. Jews under the leadership of Jakub Berman persuaded Stalin to appropriate a 200 mile wide resource-rich swath of Eastern Poland….” As in the articles section of Chossudovsky’s website, the supposed Jewish control of America is another theme. A reader posting titled, “Iraq War is for Israel",[12] includes a map depicting an American flag with the stars replaced by Magen Davids, and emblazoned with the legend, “Who are we fighting for?” However, while Chossudovsky’s site is rife with antisemitism and hate-filled attacks on Israel, it seems primarily oriented toward hating America. Thus by far the most popular reader postings feature spurious American atrocity stories and anti-American pornography. For example, 49,443 visitors have viewed a posting titled, “Watch video of US bombing peaceful Iraqi demonstrators.”[13] And 5,587 visitors have viewed “US GI’s sodomised Iraqi children.”[14] At the University of Ottawa, Chossudovsky teaches courses in international economics.[15] In his articles, Chossudovsky argues that as part of its war to dominate the world, America uses the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank to impoverish, destabilize and colonize other countries. Bollyn reports that Murdoch’s mother and wife are Jewish and that Murdoch is connected to “Larry Silverstein and the former Israeli commando Frank Lowy, the lease holders of dubious repute who gained control of the WTC property six weeks before 9/11, and Port Authority Chairman Lewis M.
