The situation that Martin Benjamin describes with regard to Yoruba is exactly what a few people are trying to address in the working group "a12n-collaboration" on technical aspects of use of African languages on computers and the internet, and on a discussion board focusing on "Yoruba language & ICT." Both of these, as well as other fora and resources are accessible via a gateway page on "A12n" at http://www.bisharat.net/A12N . There may be ways to simplify some of the problems being encountered with the Internet Living Yoruba Dictionary, and in fact some of us are discussing optimal input methods with Unicode fonts for Yoruba.
