For me, three sets of sounds and images from the past few day cling to memory: shocked faces at the sound of the verdict, smiling faces of looters, and sounds of picks and shovels - all impressions, of course, growing from the media. Like others, I worry about the media's effect, especially what the media tends to amplify by it's attention. I hope that ocean of smiling faces was amplified into numbers far beyond their real magnitude, and I hope that little amplification was needed to bring us those sounds of reconstruction. I also wonder about this media. This electronic media, connecting an unseen community. What will be our contribution? I worry sometimes that we get too caught up in an avalanche of reply keys.
