Here is how we are approaching staff development in technology. - I think we need to try to find ways to get the tech training to the teachers. My situation is different- I am at one school, but my district has tried to develop leaders at the schools, and they in turn try to get the training to the teachers as they need it. I was lucky enough to have been funded to be released full time one year and 75% of my time the next, but we knew that wouldn't last, so I worked hard with my tech committee to develop the idea of a tech team who don't mind helping other teachers. We all are willing to help teachers during their planning time, or go into classes during our planning time to do demo lessons or just help with a technology rich lesson. The district has supported us by providing training opportunities for us- conferences, summer workshops and making tech tools available. The district Ed. Tech dept. (currently 3 people) has worked to build site leaders and the site leaders have built teams. That way we can get training to individual teachers or small groups in ways that fit their schedules- and we are able to individualize what people want and need. Nothing is worse than being really tired after a day of teaching then having to spend 2 hrs in a tech. training with 30 people all at different levels of expertise while a trainer tries to not go too fast for some and too slow for others.
