------------------ Greetings. The April 29, 2011, issue of Chronicle of Higher Education includes the article, "Too Big To Fail: How 'better than nothing' defined the National Research Council's graduate rankings." One of the pulled quotes reads, "There were scores of anomalous results that could not be accounted for." Really?!? What a news flash! (NOT.) I pointed out in a column four years ago that NRC's counts of full-time faculty members in a bunch of JMC doctoral programs weren't even close to accurate, and that if NRC couldn't even get the number of faculty right, most to all of their other statistics (publications per faculty member, etc.) also had to be wrong.....
