It is the on-line catalog for the U of California system (including Berkeley, UCLA, and many other libraries), with some 12 million items. Best of all--and I think this is unique for a major OPAC--they will email you a copy of your search. (OPAC = Online Public Access Catalog.) It is easy to show professors how to use MELVYL, and the system so far has not crashed or slowed on me. The main indexes for periodicals are PE (periodical title) and XPE (exact periodical title).
