Date sent: Mon, 05 Sep 94 08:34:06 EST From: David Fahey <DFAHEY@MIAMIU.ACS.MUOHIO.EDU> Subject: Substituting for Conferences To: H-World@msu.edu A few suggestions for H-World. Like many subscribers I can't attend many face-to-face conferences. In my case an overdue book manuscript and an eight-year-old daughter have first claim on non-teaching time. Like many world history teachers I also have to juggle several teaching and/or research fields. Nominally I am a British social historian. Most of my research is Anglo-American (and I recently published a book on African-American fraternal societies). To get to the point, I hope H-World can provide reports on the conferences I can't attend: abstracts of papers & discussions, business ses- sions of related organizations, reports on new books, etc. I belong to two older e-lists (WORLD-L for non-Eurocentric history; WSN for World-Systems) which are helpful for replies to specific queries and for their membership addresses. Unfortunately, they provide no standard "programs," only a chance to initiate a conversation or to listen to somebody else's. *David Fahey (Miami U., Oxford, OH 45056, USA) dfahey@miamiu.acs.muohio.edu
