X-Posted from H-Net Discussion List on Portuguese-speaking African Countries <H-LUSO-AFRICA@H-NET.MSU.EDU> From: Jeremy Ball <ballj@DICKINSON.EDU> -------- From: Saleem H. Ali Date: 9 May 2008 Greetings It was nice to receive further comments on the oil issue. Indeed, STP is not producing oil yet but the process for negotiating the deals and contracts has been underway for some time and much capital has been flowing there already for at least five years. I wrote a short op-ed on oil in Africa for the Carnegie Council recently which is relevant to this discussion: Here is the link: http://www.policyinnovations.org/ideas/commentary/data/000042 Also a longer paper on the topic which I coauthored with a colleague from the Vargas Foundation in Brazil was published in a book called "Corporate Citizenship in Africa" a couple of years ago. Here is a link to the online version of that paper: http://www.uvm.edu/~shali/OliveraAli.pdf Warm regards Saleem -------------------------------------------- Saleem H.
