From: McGrath, John J CIV USA TRADOC <email@example.com> Subject: RE: COMMENT: Audie Murphy To Hell and Back (UNCLASSIFIED) Date: March 19, 2010 11:50:53 AM EDT To: H-NET Military History Discussion List <H-WAR@H-NET.MSU.EDU> The comment about the Audie Murphy movie reminds me of the time I saw the movie Independence Day back in the 1990s (I think we actually saw it on the 4th of July) and the aliens blew up the White House and the whole audience cheered for some reason. During the 1955-1957 period I was a young soldat in Germany . Of all things someone had the Chutzpah to bring over to German movie houses To Hell and Back -- I think the marquee had it ZUR HOLLE UND ZURICK. mit Audie Murphy. I went to see the movie which was totally dubbed into German . The scene where Audie Murphy is on top of the burning tank firing a machine gun into masses of oncoming German soldiers-- the movie audience broke out into a big round of applause. The scene from 55 years ago now prodded by this thread is vivid in my memory.
