The New York Times just published an article on the books, articles, fiction and poetry emerging from the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. http://www.nytimes.com/2010/02/08/us/08military.html I am not sure the reporter--Elisabeth Bumiller, who covered the White House during much of the Bush administration--justifies her assertion: "The current group is different. As part of a modern all-volunteer force, they explore the timeless theme of the futility of war — but wars that they for the most part support." Because I do not believe much soldier writing about the US Civil War, or World War II, for instance, opposed those wars. I think she is implicitly reacting to some of the books about Vietnam. But the piece has lots of examples that should be useful to list readers. -- Jonathan Beard jbeard@panix.com ----- For subscription help, go to: http://www.h-net.org/lists/help/ To change your subscription settings, go to http://h-net.msu.edu/cgi-bin/wa?SUBED1=h-war -----
