Unfortunately I've not had the time to read the entire discussion string on proportionality. But I couldn't resist commenting on this Somalia related topic. Use of the M1 tank in a Somalia like setting is what the Army would call "Overmatch Capability". Akin to swatting flies with a sledge hammer. A 70+ ton tank is not an ideal weapon in complex urban terrain with narrow streets and tight turns. Tanks also have gun elevation difficulty which limits their ability to fire into upper windows and at ground level targets. A cunning and intelligent enemy might not be able to destroy it, but would probably eventually figure out a way to disable it unless it is supported by dismounted infantry. Kevin Born
