The exact quantification of foreign military aid in the Spanish Civil War will probably continue to escape us for many years, in part because of a clearly perceptible drop of interest in the conflict itself. Still, there are several works which provide more recent data and figures than some of the classic books on the SCW. From a purely air force perspective, a good discussion of the problem of "numbers" can be found in Angelo Emiliani and G.F. Ghergo, _Wings over Spain_, Milano, GAE, 1998, pp. 174-179. According to the authors, the totals are 764 Italian, 828 German and 1228 Soviet aircraft. Gregory Alegi Italian Air Force Academy
