Using the GMDS study, German Manpower, 1946-that used captured German Labor Department statistics I would like to lay out the actual numbers of German workers in 1939 and 1944. As is noted, the reason the proportion of German Women in the work place goes up is because the number of German men went down; Not that there was a marked increase in German women. The largest change came about with the numbers of "guest workers" and PWs pressed into work. 1939 (Sept) German men 24,728,300 German women 14,686,400 foreigners 300,400 Total 39,414,700 1944 (Sept) German men 13,535,300 German women 14,896,600 foreigners and PWs 7,487,400 Total 35,919,300 Rob Rush
