Could someone on the list help identify, a probably immediate postwar American military unit, of unknown size, in the American Zone--or ca. 1947, when the British and American Zones were combined--known as the "Rhine River Patrol". I am writing from a county library system, and so far our sources (rather limited for this period), have not yielded a lead or an answer. The patron was in the unit, provided no further detail, and is looking for a unit history, if one exists. If one does not exist for the unit (once identified) and it has a parent unit for which a unit history was written, that might be helpful, too. Have checked our histories of post-war Germany, histories of U.S. forces, Alta Vista and Google (using a variety of approaches), so far without success. Could there be a veterans' association for the unit? Your help is appreciated. Thanks in advance. Mark Rothenberg, Sr. Ref.
