> >Sent: dinsdag 23 december 2008 0:42 Understanding the South, Understanding America: The American South in Regional, National, and Global Perspectives American Studies at the University of Manchester is pleased to announce the launch of an AHRC-funded International Research Network devoted to the interdisciplinary study of the US South from the colonial era to the contemporary period. Directed by Brian Ward in cooperation with colleagues at the Universities of Cambridge (Tony Badger), Copenhagen (Martyn Bone) and Florida (Bill Link), this international Network seeks to encourage methodological innovation in Southern Studies across disciplines, promote a more sophisticated understanding of key aspects of southern history, and foster greater appreciation of the relationships between the South and other national and international sites. Following a successful preliminary conference in Manchester in May 2008, further meetings are planned in 2009-10 for Florida, Cambridge, Copenhagen and Manchester again.
