*THE SPRING SEMESTER OF THE HISTORY FOUNDATION’S THURSDAY TALKS SERIES IS ABOUT TO BEGIN* The “Thursday Talks” discussion series, organized in Istanbul by the History Foundation, will begin once again on February 20. Having focused on the theme of “The City, Memory, and Action” last semester, the first half of this year’s spring semester will take up the First World War. In recognition of the 100-year anniversary of the First World War, the History Foundation will be organizing a symposium, together with the Orient Institute, entitled “Not All Quiet on the Ottoman Fronts: Neglected Perspectives on a Global War, 1914-18” between April 9 and 12. As this event approaches, a section of the foundation’s Thursday Talks series will be devoted to this subject. One of the most decisive events in the history of the 20th century, the First World War has in Turkey, as in many other countries, largely remained within the province of military history. However, over the past 30 years researchers have begun to look beyond military and diplomatic history and to develop an interest in the war’s economic, social and cultural aspects. In this period military history itself has undergone a serious transformation, with topics and areas of research seeing increasing diversification. In order to render these changes more visible, and to introduce our large upcoming symposium in April, the History Foundation invites you to discuss and debate the First World War with the Thursday Talks series. Geçtiğimiz dönem “Kent, Bellek, Hareket” temasına odaklanan Perşembe Konuşmaları, bu yıl Bahar Dönemi’nin ilk yarısında “Birinci Dünya Savaşı”nı ele alacak. Birinci Dünya Savaşı’nın başlangıcının yüzüncü yıldönümü dolayısıyla Orient Institute ile birlikte 9-12 Nisan 2014 tarihlerinde gerçekleştireceğimiz “Osmanlı Cephesinde Yeni Bir Şey Var: Cihan Harbi’ne Yeniden Bakmak, 1914-1918” sempozyumu yaklaşırken, vakfımız İstanbul Perşembe Konuşmaları’nın bir bölümünü bu konuya ayırdı. 20.
