I have facilitated many such events, some in New York State when I was a regional folklorist there. You really need a community organization such as an arts council to sponsor such an event and promote it. I would take people that I'd already interviewed and documented, then invite them to participate (no more than four). The interview is fresh in their mind and they have key stories ready to tell. The idea is then to get audience members to start contributing, and the whole event documented with audio and video. Really moving experiences have occurred at the ones I've organized. I'm forwarding your message to folklorist Lydia Fish who is at one of the universities there in Buffalo. Maybe she has some suggestions. Dale W. Johnson folklorist 784 Carcassonne Rd.
