In the Dunmore transcripts at the Rockefeller Library in Williamsburg, VA, Legge (in a letter to Dunmore) refers to Dunmore's "Letter of the 1st of May" in which Dunmore claimed (and here Legge paraphrases) "that with a Supply of Arms and Ammunition you should be able to collect from amongst Negroes Indians and other persons a force sufficient if not to subdue Rebellion at least to defend Government." The odd thing is that Legge is writing on August 2, 1775, and does not seem to be referring to a 1772 letter. The full cite is Earl of Dartmouth to Dunmore, Whitehall, 2 August 1775, Dunmore Correspondence Jul 1774-Mar 1776, TR13.2, Special Collections, John D. Rockefeller Library, Williamsburg, VA.
