Sender: dpbarr <dpbarr@kent.edu> To: H-OIEAHC@H-NET.MSU.EDU CFP - OAH 2002: American Indian Warfare and Diplomacy I am putting together a panel proposal for the April 2002 OAH national conference in Washington DC. The session's main theme encompasses American Indian warfare and diplomacy, with a more specific emphasis on the ways in which native conceptions of war influenced and were influenced by interaction with Euro-Americans. Dr. Colin Calloway (Dartmouth College) will chair the session and Dr. David Dixon (Slippery Rock University) will serve as a commentator. We currently have two paper presentations and are seeking a third presenter and possibly a second moderator. My own presentation covers the western Delaware war leader Shingas and the agenda inherent in his utilization of unrestricted warfare on the Pennsylvania frontier during the French and Indian War. Our second presentation is a comparative assessment of the changing nature of ritualized warfare in Cheyenne and Sioux culture triggered by interaction with Euro-Americans. If you are interested in joining this panel, please send a short abstract of your presentation topic, a brief c.v., and contact information to dpbarr@kent.edu. If using attachments, Microsoft Word98 or WordPerfect 7.0 (or older) files are preferred. Ascii and rich text formats (.txt or .rtf) will also work. Hardcopy submissions can be forwarded by snailmail to: Daniel Barr, 305 Bowman Hall, Kent State University, Kent, OH 44242. Deadline is November 1, 2000.
