Sent: 12 January 2014 12:15 Dear Colleagues, The Oxford Centre for Islamic Studies (OCIS), in association with the Faculty of Oriental Studies at the University of Oxford, is pleased to announce a programme of seminars entitled: ‘Introducing Islamic Manuscripts’. The seminars will be held at the Oxford Centre for Islamic Studies, George Street, Oxford OX1 2AR, during Hilary Term 2014 on Wednesdays at 5.00 p.m. (unless otherwise indicated). The purpose of the seminar series is to survey the state of the ‘art’ of working with manuscripts from the Muslim world. Each week’s seminar will be conducted by a leading expert in Islamic codicology from around the world, and aims to introduce attendees to the various considerations, challenges, and techniques of working with some aspect of pre-modern handwritten materials. The series is intended for postgraduate students and specialists, as well as the wider public, with interests ranging from Muslim material culture to history, literature, and library studies.
